Bulgaria in Crisis from Russian gas-cut

-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay France (US trip!)

Bulgaria has resorted to rationing supplies to industry, and may run out in days... Like Macedonia, it has no access to alternative pipeline routes. Slovakia has declared an energy emergency and most Balkan countries said deliveries of Russian gas had been totally halted...

Others:
Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, France, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey all reported deep cuts in their gas supplies.

And this from IranVNC-
Meanwhile, an unnamed source in Iran’s embassy in Ankara told Reuters that Tehran may be able to increase its natural gas supplies to Turkey if a shortfall is created.

The European Union branded the situation "completely unacceptable" and demanded the flow be restored:
"It is indeed a crisis, a serious one," Ferran Tarradellas told BBC Radio 4's Today programme. Alternative routes from Russia avoiding Ukraine will not be able to replace the shortfall, he noted. "We are demanding that they restore gas supplies to the EU immediately." More.
The disruption coincides with a particularly cold snap – temperatures dropped to minus 15F (minus 25C) in Serbia – and many countries in eastern and central Europe depend on gas for central heating...

Stating: "Unipolar dominance of one state is unacceptable."

Note: While the EU threatened to postpone talks with Russia on a new partnership pact, it did not adopt the sanctions some countries were demanding...

Euronews interview at Medvedev's summer residence in Sochi (Black Sea)
euronews: Analysts believe that the Caucasian crisis turned the final page in the history of post-Soviet Russia and became the starting point for a new world. You have mentioned that view already. How will Russia build its relationships with its neighbors, in particular with Ukraine, and the outside world, as a whole?

From Video above
Dmitry Medvedev: "We will build our relationships with all nations based on common criteria. You are right, and I have already said that the events of August this year showed the imperfection of the current security structure. We need to rebuild it, based on the realities of today." And then, outlines Russia's 5 principals of Russian Foreign policy. (see Video) -Transcript.

My Thoughts...
The ability for Russian influence to grow within the International Community is directly proportionate to its ability to recognize the impact of short-term/long-term Soviet history upon a fully sovereign (& leary) community...
If they fail in areas of trust, Russia's future business dealings will be seen as "coerced ventures"... And negatively viewed (Video) Putin System.

Short-term History: Remembering News of April 17, 2008...
MOSCOW — Russia announced Wednesday that it was broadly expanding support for two separatist regions in neighboring Georgia and would establish legal connections with the regions’ de facto governments.

A comprehensive deepening of ties between the separatist enclaves and Russia, including in trade, agriculture, education, diplomacy and social support.
Citing also, support for the Abkhaz military in the form of logistics or ammunition. Article.

Long-term History: Soviet Ambitions ('Domed to Repeat')
NOTE: Russia explained that its enhanced engagement was modeled in part on American support for Taiwan... But this is be seriously absent absolute records of UN/US/Taiwan history...

A little 1920's Georgia/Soviet History (sounds relatively accurate)
"Following the establishment of Soviet rule in Baku in April 1920, Ordzhonikidze, acting most probably on his own initiative, advanced on Georgia to support a planned coup in Tbilisi. The coup failed, however, allowing the government to concentrate all forces on successfully blocking the advance of Russian troops on the Georgian-Azerbaijani border. Facing an uneasy war with Poland, the Soviet Russian leader, Vladimir Lenin, ordered to start negotiations with Georgia.

In the Treaty of Moscow signed on May 7, 1920, Soviet Russia recognized Georgia’s independence and concluded a non-aggression pact. The treaty de jure established the existing borders between the two nations."

Back in 2007... Russia's NATO envoy, Dmitry Rogozin, warned that if the EU and NATO came into conflict with the UN over Kosovo, Russia would "proceed from the view that in order to be respected, we must use brute force." Video.

I see a better way: 'With Measured Tones of Diplomacy'...
Exactly the words of former US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage; who met with Russian Federation-controlled News Media ('Russia Today') Armitage made clear that, the actions taken between Russia and Georgia were extreme; and assured all, that Washington did not encourage Georgia to start a war...
Logic: With war in Iraq, & application for NATO, this would make no sense.

Question and Answer: The former Deputy Secretary explains:
"We are not used to having democracies attacked."

America is caught between two different sets of 'outcome-seeking media: A 'Russian-controlled' media, and (oddly) the US 'Left-controlled' media who do an election-spin (I dare say, inappropriate considering the plight of these people!)

The region, caught-up in a difficult position, would benifit 'NOW' by diplomatic efforts to solve this crisis... And not another "if only you elect Obama", stragedy; as with US economy, and energy solution... Face it: The US left, is the LAST thing on the minds of these respective Nations in conflict...

I've a logical solution to solve three problems for two Governments...
Not to mention the opening up of lucrative freight routes with Europe. And I can also see it curb inflation for Russia - while stimulating the economy in U.S; in relatively short order...

A very precise contract, would aim to defuse a regional sovereignty challenge, while the US evolves its Southern State's gas reserves... This would inevitably seal-the-deal for a mega gas-pipeline from Russia to U.S; and a host the much needed environmental upgrades for respective nations...

On the present course, FACE IT, Int'l Oil-days are numbered: Story.

Vision of the Future
I see a web grid of successful Maglev rails connecting essential major cities. I also see much of this in place in US and Russia; before the Winter Olympics in the Black Sea resort of Sochi (2014.)

The bridging of American and and Russian relations, will make more likely, the beginnings of renewed infrastructure, renewable energies; as a spiraling transcontiential rail would update alternative rail transportation for both regional countries...

The tunnel would also enable rail connections between London and New York; thus enabling an expanded rail for Munich, w/ more-rapid feasibility! More.

More later... Keep Good Thoughts...
