COMMENTS: Sargasso currents, the equatorial belts, some massive gyre off Somalia, these amazing Karman vortices just off Indonesia, and then this massive pulse rippling past Japan, and then the North Pacific is simmering and pulsing, and some nice little Hadley cells off South America. ~Hewpie

It would be interesting to take the sea levels down 100 meters or so in a computer model and see how these flows might change.

Earth spends a lot more time in glacial periods than in interglacial periods and when sea levels are that low, the land masses such as Indonesia, Australia, New Guinea and the Caribbean change considerably which would likely have a major impact on some pretty important flows. ~crosspatch
