Rose: 1 Hour Interview with Obama (06)

-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
UPDATE:
The Hour with Obama (second video below) was sweet... But I already feel good about myself; and that is why I appreciate that those in command are working 24-7 to prevent your 'typical average' terrorist from spreading random suicide attacks... There is nothing which leads us to believe that cutting-back on National Defense, will end terrorism.

Quite the contrairy... Those who want to kill you, are actually enabled, by your passive stance... (Recent threats against Spain, come to mind.)

Also... Obama: Raise Capital Gains Tax By 100%
(Basically, the death of American prosperity.)

The job before us, is exceedingly difficult...
It is suggested that Americans take the time to re-visit the details of a most crucial time-line in our World's History:
1991: The Fall of the Soviet Union and the Rise of Russia. Here.
And decide (again) how it was handled by Clinton/Gore.

And then, view a pre-candidate, Obama... (Feel-good and that is all)

Californian in Lyon...

-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)

This song is perfect for today... Because, after staying in a foreign country for awhile... Certain little "quirks" remind you that you're a traveler visitor... And as Sting phrases it: "legal alien"...haha.

Tomorrow... I leave for Moujan (studio)... But as for Lyon, everything is like a 'picture postcard'... And as charming as can be! (Aside from blurred photography!)

Quirks...
Americans have trouble awakening and going to the market,
only to see this written all across the building...

Have a wonderful day, people!

Iraqi Gov. Purging Basra Strongholds

-Posted by D. Worth (US) for- M. Barbay (France)
Update: instapundit has AUDIO from Michael Yon (Iraq)

Update: Deadline extended (so. city, Basra) Op. Knights' Assault
Armed outlaw Militants encouraged to Handover Arms at security sites Now until April 8th. They will be rewarded financially. #

Iraqi Basra police shed uniforms, kept rifles, & switched sides
Seems UK Times was right there, on hand, to catch the entire development
And Timesonline says this: "If the British taught the police to shoot straight, they failed to instill a sense of unwavering loyalty to the State." Media Slap!

And then UK Times reports: Abu Iman barely flinched when the Iraqi Government ordered his unit of special police to move against al-Mahdi Army fighters in Basra.

“We know the outcome of the fighting in advance because we already defeated the British in the streets of Basra and forced them to withdraw to their base,” Abu Iman told The Times. Media Slap!

UPDATE: Iran Backing Sadr Revolt in Iraq
"They also said an infusion of cash, also from Iran, helped the militia set up new command centers equipped with Internet-linked computers, fax machines and satellite mobile phones. They have also received global positioning system devices, they said.

The tensions have spilled over into street battles in Basra between Mahdi fighters and Iraqi government forces. Fighting also has flared in other cities across southern Iraq's Shiite heartland — where Iran is hedging its bets by supporting factions of the Mahdi Army and its main Shiite rival. Read more.

Rantburg has More Media Slap! From UK Timesonline)
Basra crisis leaves British withdrawal in ruins
Analysis: Britain must now fight or fail
Iraqi troops take on Shia militia in Basra clash

Sounds Like the method Iran & Syria used in Lebanon:
Mahdi Army commanders have told the AP that the militia has recently taken delivery of new weapons supplied by backers in Iran. The arsenal, they said, included roadside bombs, anti-aircraft guns and Soviet-designed Grad rockets.

Saudi King on interfaith Dialogue

-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)

Saudi Arabia's top clerics have given him the green light to the idea — crucial backing in a society which expects decisions taken by its rulers to adhere to Islam's tenets. read more.

"Culture and the Respect of Religions."
Replacing 'perception of Religious Divide', with Peace.
Religious understanding and acceptance has always been a direction of a higher path... Today's multiculturalism has not only impacted and joined us geographically; it has joined our families in worship…

Saudi King Abdullah is (once again) on the right track…

His call is significant and could add weight to sporadic efforts at dialogue among religious leaders in recent years... #
Note: Clip (below) Interesting (until it slips into Media division; half-way through!)
Saudi king calls for dialogue among different religions.
"The idea is to ask representatives of all monotheistic religions to sit together with their brothers in faith and sincerity to all religions as we all believe in the same God," the king told delegates Monday night at a seminar on "Culture and the Respect of Religions." #
Wiki highlights today’s Old City of Jerusalem, as home to several sites of key religious importance: The Temple Mount and its Western Wall for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians, and the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims.

UPDATE This socio-political system leads nowhere! VIDEO!

Nothing is healed inside of a vacuum, and nothing is healed within a perception of division...And considering that radicalized militancy preys upon religious divide as a recruitment tool, this was a logical first step...

Hamas Responsible for Escalation in Gaza

-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)

"Amidst all the tumult of Hamas' clamoring and the deaths of innocents, nobody paid attention to the countries that were supporting Hamas, and that were planning moves aimed at embarrassing their rivals... at a cost of innocent lives." -State Arab Officials and Columnists #

"Does Iran realize that it is party to the murder of innocents in Gaza because of its support for Hamas' [foolhardy] actions?

Has Qatar considered, even for a moment, withdrawing its financial and media support for this wretched and loudmouthed movement? Does Syria realize that its involvement with Hamas does not lessen its isolation [in the international arena] but increases it?

In a March 25, 2008 article by MEMRI, No. 1879
Arab Officials and Columnists Say:
"Hamas Responsible for Escalation in Gaza"

Arab officials and columnists such as, Nasser Al-'Utaibi with Al-Siyassa; concerned with Lebanon's rights, its independence, its sovereignty, and its freedom to elect its own president without pressure from Iran and Syria... and the Arab nation's tire of regimes, groups, power centers and self-interested [parties] exploiting the Palestinian cause as a pretext for [waging] wars...

Read following columns; and excerpts (below) (Source: MEMRI.org)

[1] Al-Sharq Al-Awsat (London), March 3, 2008.

[3] Al-Hayat Al-Jadida (Palestinian Authority), March 5, 2008.

[7] http://www.elaph.com/, March 2, 2008.
[8] Al-Sharq Al-Awsat (London), March 2, 2008.

Article excerpts:
Al-Maliki added, "By staging a coup against the legitimate Palestinian [authority] in Gaza, and with its useless rockets, Hamas has given the international community an opportunity to disregard the situation in Gaza." [1]

Harsh criticism of Hamas was also voiced by the Al-Azhar Sheikh Muhammad Sayyed Tantawi, who said that the Hamas' rocket attacks were useless and would only bring trouble upon the Palestinians themselves. [2]

Will you return to your senses and to your people, and give up the wretched notion of establishing an [Islamic] emirate [in Gaza]?" [3]

Hamas - whose leader appears only at rallies, like [Hizbullah Secretary-General] Hassan Nasrallah... - bears sole responsibility for the death of Palestinians [which is occurring] on a daily basis... In light of their insane insistence on launching improvised rockets [into Israel], they bear sole responsibility for the destruction of Gaza... " [4]

"No Palestinian liberation movement can make any headway in the conditions prevailing today in Gaza, [especially] when its will is subjugated to that of strong external [powers], which direct it according to their own orientation and interests.[5]

"We feel sorry for the Palestinian people, which has fallen prey to the leaders in Damascus and Tehran... [6]

"Will the people of Gaza wake up and rebel against Hamas and its financiers, and thus send [its members] scurrying like rats for cover, along with the Al-Qaeda cells, both dormant and active, [in Gaza] - as happened to the remnants of Al-Qaeda in Iraq? We hope that they will." [7]

Also, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat editor Tariq Alhomayed wrote:
"Syria and Iran must be questioned about the seriousness and efficacy of the actions of their allies in Hamas - both those who remain in Damascus and those who hide in their holes in Gaza. Did their rocket [attacks on Israel] benefit the helpless Palestinian [people in any way]? Or have the people of Gaza been left to deal with the death and destruction on their own, while the Hamas leaders flee to safe hideouts, calling this the 'prudent' way to wage war with Israel?" Hand-over History (Sri Lanka)

Amidst G. Britain’s history of land-deals & hand backs of the mid 1900's...

The policy that would impact Sri Lanka, 'through the next half century'

Image: Palani Mohan- Slideshow
Note: In Sri Lanka there was no such mass struggle against colonial rule.

Sadly, Sri Lanka, post hand over, became treaties broken, ethnic cleanse, and furthered militarization of minority A.R.(Armed Resistance) in 1983.

The quiet vacuum... 60 years later, & over 70,000 deaths...
View a local's "Tamil narrative" (short Sri Lanka history)

The Tamil's "Gandhi-non-violence" was replaced in 1972; by a 'fully militarized' resistance army in 1983. (Inspired by World's notice of PLO.)
HT: Instapundit- Dennis Prager poses another question.

~~~~~~~~~~
And this:
The consequence, too great; and history too long, not to set this right.
And for the survival of Minorities: End these destabilizations, now!
(Clip 2 min)
Handing the security back to fragile nations ...
Care be taken, and history demands it; lest resistance groups become a permanent fixture... Hasty hand overs likely to leave nations beyond the ability to hold future security... Awakening please help us all...
Bee's Evolution toward Resilience!
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
We morn for the imbalance of species, yet the rhythm of Nature is so deeply imbedded as 'instinct of a greater plan'... Distribution of the laws of Nature, evolve toward preservation... So, is it really, the end of Bee pollination?
-View Update Below!
Evolution drives instinct by events, unseen by human intellect. Which leads me to believe that every "thing" is "everything all at once" ... Just as what is said to have disappeared, instead, exists in a continual state of "morph to make new."
Take for an example, this scenario : in videos below...
(left) 30 Hornets take-on 30,000 Bees... And win!
(right) Japanese Bees have evolved a strategy... 'Evolution!'
CAPTION: Japanese Honey Bees (not quite as defenseless as their European cousins) have set a trap for the Giant Hornet. Once the Hornet enters the bee hive to mark it for other Hornets, the trap is sprung... The Honey Bees surround the Scout Hornet and raise its temperature which slowly... (Problem solved!)
UPDATE: Here they are!! Giving hornets a 117 degree misery!
While Human Intellect Morns: Instinct of Species, Morph!
"Africanized bees attack in far greater numbers and pursue perceived enemies for greater distances. Once disturbed, colonies may remain agitated for 24 hours, attacking people and animals within a range of a quarter mile from the hive."
Just as it has not been possible for man to secure ‘immune response and instinct' within species of plant and animals he recreates... Nature's species will morph for survival in perfect sync; to prepare for nature's evolution & celestial balance...
PS: They told you: "The World's food supply will be wiped-out."
(But forgot to mention the replacement Bee, & that 'nasty little grudge'!)
Cassini Set for 'upper Atmosphere' Titan
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
As planetary research continues...
Preserved within its upper atmosphere, Titan (largest of Saturn's 48 moons) is a potential 'key-holder' of earth's earliest beginnings...
Ocean 'may exist' beneath Titan's crust: Read Story
-View Video Close-up of Saturn and Titan...
Has Titan a potential for colonization?
Titan Colonization:
Besides the occasional “jello-like” landscape, and liquid methane rains…
It is a tad chilly. And at 300 degrees below Fahrenheit: "Bundle up!"
But Scientists will not have to wait long before another go at Titan...
On March 25, Cassini will employ its Ion and Neutral Mass Spectrometer to examine its upper atmosphere!
Bryan Stiles of California's NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab says:
"We believe that about 62 miles beneath the ice and organic-rich surface is an internal ocean of liquid water mixed with ammonia."
"The combination of an organic-rich environment and liquid water is very appealing to astrobiologists. Further study of Titan's rotation will let us understand the watery interior better, and because the spin of the crust and the winds in the atmosphere are linked, we might see seasonal variation in the spin in the next few years," Lorenz said.
The continuing study of vital functions within our galaxy will help discover electrostatic sources of asteroid energy, to aid wider regions of our little globe... Video below (remedial at first) But stay with it!
Video becomes much more interesting...
Blessings for New Democracy, Bhutan!
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
Democracy Comes to Isolated Kingdom
Five generations of royal rule have molded Bhutan into an island of Himalayan idiosyncrasy, a tiny country sandwiched between India and China...
"The age of monarchs is ending, and power should be yours."
The command came from the king, as commands normally do in a nation where royalty has ruled for a century. But when the Precious Ruler of the Dragon People spoke that day, he stunned this deeply isolated corner of the Himalayas... -Tim Sullivan reports...
"Across one border, protests and Chinese crackdowns wrack Tibet... The regional turmoil was, in part, what motivated Bhutan's king to embrace democracy. Why wait, he asked his subjects, for a time when trouble pushes the kingdom into a political corner? Read more.
A 'Legend of Atlantis' Video (etc)
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
My wishes to you, for a very Happy Easter... Just found this rather bizarre (though interesting) Documentary... I believe that it was filmed as early as the 90's? ...(Not exactly sure.)
Caption: "Following the catastrophe in Atlantis all nations were dispersed. A part of the Atlantean brotherhood's secret knowledge survived in Egypt, India & Tibet... Video: 31 min 47 sec
And: "After a great purification, these time-gates will fall, and cities of lights will descend out of their orbit to selected areas... Extra, and inner-terrestrial, built time-gates to anchor these cites on a higher sub-atomic Frequency."
Keep thinking those Good Thoughts...
Clip does get a little “warm and fuzzy” toward the center… But hey… Foton belt, Myan tradition star system, and in some places a bit of bad sound sync... (Thought to be a translation dub.)
USCC 1787: On Return to Meet Standards
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
The U.S. Constitutional Convention of 1787, regarded as the greatest political achievement in history, also happens to be the greatest hard money charter ever adopted by a sovereign people...
The good news: And we are going back to meet those standards...
(Only faster by the FED; which was surprisingly not the plan)
The bad news: I cannot tell you positives that "Dr. H" (Alexandria) sees... He gives this a green-light...
And tells me that those pegged to the Dollar will not be unhappy, when this comes to be... So have faith.
And hold-on people! VIDEO!
I'm glad it wasn't about the dollar un-peg concert, by Nations representing tripling of oil prices (as affiliates of deregulated industries) furthered a weakening "2001 recovery" dollar!
Remembering the curiously rapid un-pegs/incentives which removed trillions from the US Dollar. And Iran's 2006 effort to convert (a select of the region) and their 'trillions' to gold.
Posted Earlier (below) before I knew the answer... including anyway:
One economist asks:
"Could it simply be that the ballooning federal budget deficit driving Treasury debt issues combined with the mortgage repackaging boom to compete on the exchange rate with exports of non-financial goods and services, while also giving an arbitrary advantage to all kinds of foreign economic activity (outsourcing, importing, FDI)?"
We look to the past...
James Pethokoukis, assistant managing editor for the Money & Business section at U.S. News & World Report; writes 6 months ago:
"Overall... he says, "The American economy is, adjusting for inflation, $1.65 trillion bigger than it was six years ago."
"To put that gigantic number in some perspective, the U.S. economy has added the equivalent of five Saudi Arabias, eight Irans, 13 Pakistans, or 15 Egypts, depending on your preference. And while 9/11 did cause the stock market to plunge, the Dow is 37 percent higher than it was on Sept. 10, 2001, creating trillions of dollars of new wealth for Americans. What's more, the unemployment rate is 4.6 percent today vs. 5.7 percent back then. Not bad at all."
Read full article
And this June 5, 2006 Captain Quarters article explains that Iranians have begun exporting their savings into international banks, also buying gold at an accelerated rate, according to the Washington Times:
All of which is not necessary to mention, with the answer (above.) More later.
Dismissing the Issue of Universal Rights
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
Traveling today, and barely time to post...
If we were to sum it up... Economical instability is a common plight in an ever-shifting wind of Geopolitical economics... But when all is said and done:
ONE true principal that shall forever endure, is the success and opportunity for ALL individuals to strive to embrace FULL Universal Rights...
This should NEVER be dismissed nor over-looked; as it remains the most important issue... Even by those who seek to gain a greater Int'l influence.
Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Read again.
NOTE: Today's U.S. economical plight is the inevitable consequence of years of a 'weakening' American policy... To this, we shall overcome!
But Nations denying Universal Rights, on the other hand, this shall not be overcome. "Whatever you resist, persists."
Returning on Monday... Have a great day!
History: On December 10, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights the full text of which appears in the following pages. Following this historic act the Assembly called upon all Member countries to publicize the text of the Declaration and "to cause it to be disseminated, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions, without distinction based on the political status of countries or territories." Xinjiang Muslims: Next Target of al-Qaeda
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
Is China's Xinjiang Region being dished the same al-Qaeda strategy which has led to the expansion of Western occupation in the Middle East?
Observing this group's 'standard-form pattern'... The answer is, yes.
The difference? China cares less for World opinion, and more for survival and safety. And China does now have terror appoligists working against their purge of terrorism... Or (without question) is soon to have fewer.
al-Qaeda calls the region Tukimenistan; will china call it 'mass deportation' of the latest unfortunate Muslim populations, to come under al-Qaeda's curse?
The West is beginning to understand that the spread of terrorism is preportunate to populations who protest the curbs against Freedoms... But today should be an eye-opener, as al-Qaeda groups inch toward China; banking on the destruction of China as a key to the final dust-bin of America...
The Video (below) is not meant to be used as a phobic dance against Muslims; rather to highlight the spread of radicalized jihad, and its impact upon society of ALL people. The success of China's hard line to impact drastic measures; will be viewed all across the board... al-Qaeda acting as "Freedom-Fighters" against "oppressive China"??... (Look below) Are you next in line?
Wednesday -Energy Update
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
"When you are drifting down the stream of Niagara, it may easily happen that from time to time you run into a reach of quite smooth water, or that a bend in the river or a change in the wind may make the roar of the falls seem far more distant. But your hazard and your preoccupation are in no way affected thereby.
Today's News:
``It's a mixed bag for oil right now as the fundamentals are not bullish, but the Fed's announcement may help the economy,'' said Tetsu Emori, a fund manager at Astmax Co. in Tokyo, who forecast oil may surge as high as $120 a barrel.
Darling to Cut UK Energy Bills, Promote Cleaner Cars
Wishing the very best of Success to China's Beijing Olympics!!
Xinuha: Beijing National Stadium..."The Bird's Next"
Official Beijing Olympics Website
Unfortunately, such are the perils of a Merging Global power:
Revolts and marches in streets, military budget rise (17.6% to 417.8 billion) World-wide anti-Olympic protests; and increased AID demands, as China's new standing (amidst its rapid growth and public scrutiny) bring weak vulnerability...
China has Officially Arrived... as the Beijing Olympics begin...
Yesterday, Heightened Terror threats:
Today: Exiles March On Tibet
This last week, China has faced much challenge amidst the World's watchful eye; as the Newly Rising Empire battled to thwart incidents of terror...
A terror which China claims to have stemmed from the North West...
Hopefully these clips will update to something positive…
-I removed the protest videos... Time to think positively, as China continues to take a positive role, both in reforms and renovations...
A dominant superpower becomes the focus of every conspiracy, every attack, every threat within and without... Criticized if you respond (or) if you do not respond... We've come to know that the World is often thankless... But that will not stop Nations to strive to continue to assist others... I send good cheer to L. F. My Architect, a sons journey
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
This movie is but a handful of minutes long...
But the enormity of its message, will touch your heart.
"Ce documentaire évoque surtout l'humilité et la sincérité d'hommes de bonnes volontés, pour qui la notion de service embrassait une noblesse du comportement et non un terme économique."
From the Painter's Side of Russia...
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
This 1999 clip portrays the "ascent of Putin" as: "The ex-KGB chief, successor to Boris Yeltsin, and most "enigmatic" of the current political leaders."
While continuing to paint in Moujan, viewing a history of Russian images; I may very well have discovered the reason behind the country who 'so cautiously applies' a "buffer-zone" between the public and its administration...
Quick little clip... (More about the studio below)
His misunderstood success, in spite of wars, fighting corruption, and perceived attacks on freedoms; still led a remarkably impressive network of political and financial evolutions for his country... All (it appears) with his strong leadership, just one predictable step away from Revolt!"
-Today, he faces another: potential wave like 90's Chechnya.
In the writings of:
Memories of Alexei Volkov
She writes, as Personal Valet to Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna;
1910 - 1918; and also one of four "escapees" of the tragedies at Ekaterinburg, Alpaievsk and Perm, when the exiled Imperial Family, Grand Dukes and their entourages were savagely assassinated...
( Translation from French text)
She left a pleasant recount of the Imperial House and family...of a recluse Tsar of tragic timing; defined by mobs of whose slander was without accuracy. Which ultimately, led to their slaughter...
The Tsar's Diary account, paints of the difficulties of managing a country in political turmoil; of his concerns, his hardships, his command, while fighting alongside the French in World War 1.
Domestic issues (gone bad) and October Manifesto, ill received...
Were just the tips of the iceberg...
Tragedy started at Coronation at the Orthodox Church
And the bad omen: by those who saw it. Later blamed for the celebration which found the accidental 15 minutes where 1429 died and thousands were wounded...
And the soldiers responsible for Bloody Sunday in his absence...
Invariably Led to his tragic END.
An innocent Family: Here in Lovely Video (Worth the view)
Media Pits US Econ - 58 Times since (1776)
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
Ben Franklin, designer of the 1st coin of U.S; inscribes essential etchings upon it: "Fugio" in conjunction with the sundial: implies "Time Flies."
"Tempus Fugit" a Franklin's favorite aphorism:
"Mind Your Own Business"
And as the Media empowers electoral votes for candidates who promise MASS hand-outs, bail outs, and programs designed to socialize the Nation:
Simple logic: Every election we're going to have a bad economy...
For some of us with only 2 elections, and vision amidst the grove of archives; I'm surprised at how those who have voted for years, still don't have a clue. These are the cycles of which optimism shapes recovery and stimulates growth!
Pethokoukis (Top Managing magazine editor) reflects:
"If the economy is coming out of a recession as we head into 2009, I'm not sure Americans will see higher taxes and more government spending as the right economic medicine."
Bottom line: Whoever has the more credible, optimistic vision will probably win on the economy... (A positive plus for the U.S. & those Internationally.)
View Video from Pethokoukis's Capital Commerce Blog:
Note: Even as the 2000 dot-com bubble was bursting, stocks were crashing, and the country was heading into a recession, also became an issue in elections - Tax cuts helped. Have faith in cycles in our '90 Trillion dollar cash-flow' by continuing to donate to charity, and keep shopping! #
Pethokoukis also explains the importance of China's economy to the world economy. And I am not seeing this reality with Democrat Lobyists and Congress who initiate destructive, less diplomatic ways to address issues.
Is the World is ready to address ALL issues without America...
Darris McNeely (Anchor for Beyond Today) explains the aftermath of World War 2, when American dollars were instrumental in rebuilding the prostrate Nations of Europe... Of which a vast out-put of America's expenditures toward combating world poverty, continue...
Also noted: Contributions toward research & development of all technologies sectors; closely equal the next 7 richest countries combined...
"America in the past century, has been a blessing for many Nations of world. Its value for human life, its freedoms and opportunity led to decisive involvement in the great crisis of recent years. It was American entry into two global conflicts: World’s wars 1 & 2 that turned back the wave of anarchy which threatened the world." -Darris McNeely
Russia Lifts Embargo: Abkhazia Seeks Independence
-Posted by D. Worth (US) | for- M. Barbay (France)
Abkhazia appeals to world orgs for recognition of independence #
"The parliament and people of Abkhazia highly appreciate the role of Russia as the main guarantor of peace and security in the region," it noted.
Lovely Abkhazia... Still painting in Moujan (Moscow plans) more later...
The separatist Abkhaz parliament approved the appeals today at its extraordinary session, a day after Russia lifted trade and economic sanctions on the territory...Read more.
Georgia's other breakaway region, South Ossetia, appealed to the UN and other international bodies on Wednesday to recognize its independence. Georgia condemned the move by breakaway regions, accusing Russia of interfering in its sovereignty and territorial integrity...More
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov said the situation regarding Abkhazia had completely changed and denied that the move had anything to do with recognition by some states of Kosovo’s independence...Story.
An overview of Abkhazia: including key facts, political leaders...
And notes on the media... Region: Map (etc)
(Posting this from Feb)
NOTE: Both South Ossetia and Abkhazia have had de-facto independence since wars in the 1990s. No country recognizes their governments, though Russia has tacitly supported their autonomy _ granting residents Russian passports, maintaining trade ties and stationing peacekeepers there... Story
NOTE: A playground for the Soviet-era elite, the lush region now mainly exports agricultural products, such as mandarin oranges, to Russia. Russian businessmen have begun investing in Abkhazia's infrastructure...
Adding to the attraction is Abkhazia's location, a few miles (kilometers) from Sochi, home to the 2014 Winter Games. Billions of development dollars (euros) are pouring into the region, and Georgia fears more money coming into Abkhazia will only pull the region further from its control.
More History: Both Abkhazia and South Ossetia broke away from Georgian control in wars in the early 1990s. Georgia's president, Mikhail Saakashvili, has repeatedly vowed to bring them both back under government control. OF which is cited for the Iranian Ossetia, and today's Abkhazia, Violence occasionally breaks out between separatist forces and... Georgia-backed militias
