Draft of Iraq charter looks to Islam
N.Y.Times|E.Wong|-Thursday 21, 2005
Iraqi women protested in Baghdad against a draft for a new constitution that would enshrine Islamic law and curb their rights. "We want a guarantee of women's rights in the new constitution," Hannah Edwar, an organizer of the protest, said.
American and Iraqi officials say that several drafts of the new constitution are being considered and nothing has been set. Changes could still be made before Aug. 15, the deadline for the Iraq National Assembly to approve a draft.

Protests by women and the more secular members on the constitutional committee could force the religious Shiites to tone down the draft. Read more.

~An excerpt from Saudi scholar, and Muslim Ali Al-Ahmed:

"If the suicide-terrorists were weapons made of metal, the victims would certainly try to bomb places where they were made. But because these weapons are of human flesh, the assumption is that they can't be traced back to any specific locality. It is as if we were dealing with ethereal beings existing beyond the limits of reality.

The London attack was not the work only of the few individuals who carried it out. It was the bitter fruit of a faith that has been hijacked by a minority of extremists while the majority of its adepts watch with a mixture of awe and ill-concealed pride. The real fight against this enemy of humanity will start only when the so-called "silent majority" in Islam speaks out against these murderers and those who brainwash, train, finance and deploy them."

Strawberries and Mousse

[Strawberries and Mousse; mb©-05]

CARNIVAL OF RECIPIES #49
~~~STRAWBERRIES AND MOUSSE~~~
Elegant way to prepare fresh strawberries.
(Serves 8)
1 cup and 1 tablespoon (250g)
Heavy cream, whipped
2-1/4 lbs (1 kg) oranges
1/2 Lb (250g) Strawberries
1/2 Lb (250g) Raspberries
For the Syrup:
7/8 cup (29 cl) Water
1-1/3 cup (300 g) Granulated sugar
10 egg yolks
Grand Marnier, run, or fruit brandy, etc.
How-to:
Make the syrup first. Place the water and sugar
in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Once the
sugar has dissolved continue to boil without stirring
for 3 minutes, then remove from heat.
Beat the egg yolks in a bowl, by hand, or with an electric
mixer, and slowly pour in the sugar syrup. Continue beating
for 10 to 15 minutes to make a thick, creamy mixture, then
add a little alcohol of your choice.
Beat the cream until very stiff; spoon the egg yolk mixture
over the cream and fold to combine. The resulting mousse
should be perfectly smooth. Place the mousse in the freezer
and leave for 12 hours.
Prepare the oranges by peeling with knife to form individual
wedges. Cut strawberries in half; raspberries keep whole.
Spoon sauce evenly on chilled plate before you begin spiraling
the fruit arrangement.
At last, place 2 tablespoons mousse in center of arrangement
Actually, I like to mold mousse in individual little ramekins,
turnout, and place mint on top. Either way is fine.
This is a wonderful and easy desert for small dinner parties of 8.
Tips: 1. Place desert plates in freezer for an hour to chill.
2. Serve immediately.
Nazis Racial Propaganda
Hillary Clinton, speaking at the inaugural Aspen Ideas Festival (organized by the Aspen Institute nonpartisan think tank) referenced Bush's attitude toward tough issues, as in comparison to Alfred E Newman.
Well, unfamiliar with Alfred E. Neuman, I had to resort to the Wikipedia database:
"Many advertisements from that era included the likeness and his famous slogan, which was likewise, "What, me worry?" When Mad was sued for copyright infringement, one defense it used was that it had copied the picture from materials dating back to 1911. The image of Alfred E. Neuman was used by the Nazis for racial propaganda as an example of a Jew."
In a Google search, I came upon the Alfred E Newman Quotes
One (1) quote was found:
"Crime does not pay" ... as well as politics."
Einstein Torn
[2005/ Centennial; E=MC2]
July 5, 20- June 23, 1953 The widow of Seiei Shinohara, a philosopher and German-Japanese translator who corresponded with Einstein in the last years of the scientist's life, has chosen to go public with the letters on the 60th anniversary of the world's only nuclear attacks.
"The only consolation, it seems to me, in the development of nuclear bombs, is that this time the deterrent effect will prevail and the development of international security will accelerate." ~Einstein
Astrologer sues NASA
[370kg "impactor"-into Tempel 1's]
July, 2005; ©PhysOrg.com
Russian astrologer, Marina Bai, took legal action against NASA for compensation on Monday claiming that the US space agency's bombardment of the Tempel 1 comet will upset her horoscope and violates her spiritual rights.
Bai is demanding 8.7 billion rubles (300 million dollars, 250 million euros) compensation. Her lawyer, Alexander Molokhov, told the Moscow Echo radio that the case is based on solid legal ground, since NASA has a representative office on Russian territory. (c) 2005 AFP
Fossil Rabbit Found
[Hwy 21; Mexico -03]
The Easter Bunny's Fossilized Ancestor
By Erik Baard (3/25/05)
An international team of paleontologists have discovered a 55-million year old fossil of a primitive rabbit in Mongolia's Gobi Desert, predating earlier finds by 20 million years.
This find deepens our biological understanding of a creature that plays a leading role in folklore around the world, not least as an Easter symbol of fertility and renewal. Read more.
A filthy Lie; Grizzly!
[Exhibit C; paper cut]
The world is seeing red (and I mean, "real red") at the grizzly discovery that real stunt doubles were used (rather than Photoshop edits) in the images of Frank J, of IMAO; King of the blogosphere.
I reveal this discovery (quite by accident) during a simple paper cut in photoshop. (See exhibit C in this post.) Imagine my horror, when examining blood color-comparison of images to that of his most recent Photo escapade (see exhibit A.)
My Post to this image on 7/5/05; was not returned.
Can he be stopped from using stunt doubles? Will he repent for the lives of the stunt doubles (in some sort of humorous and honorable way?) Stay tuned to IMAO. (For a Lame excuse, I suppose.)
Robo Breast Exam
[Image: Kurt Stepnitz, Michigan State Univ.]
A Robo-scan has the current mammogram methods beat, hands down; i.e. the cold steel sheet, vice grip-like scanner that smashes the breast. (Look at how gentle he is, in the pic.) (^_^)
Reigned Like Kings
[Author, columnist; George Anne Geyer]
American syndicated columnist, George Anne Geyer typically writes about some of the most intractable political issues of the day and interviews well-known heads of state. But speaking on VOA’s News Now’s Press Conference USA, she said there is definitely a connection between politics and cats.
Ancient peoples interpreted the eyes of the cat, which glow in the dark, as something innately spiritual. And they believed that animals took part in the transmigration of souls, that cats would carry the soul of the departed person into the other world. According to Georgie Anne Geyer, ancient peoples from different cultures and races saw cats in similar ways.
