NASA: Solar Minimum is Upon Us (Solar Cycle 24)

"New solar cycles always begin with a high-latitude, reversed polarity sunspot. This patch of magnetism could be a sign of the next solar cycle."
-NASA's Solar physicist, David Hathaway (Marshall Space Flight Center)

"Our growing dependence on highly sophisticated, space-based technologies means we are far more vulnerable to space weather today than in the past."
-NOAA Administrator Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Jr.

Friday's report by National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration:
The first sunspot of a new 11-year cycle has appeared in the sun's northern hemisphere... Confirming Scientist’s (Dec 11th) discovery of a new patch of magnetism....
Frequency of sunspot 'rises and falls' during these cycles; and start of a new cycle indicates they are likely to begin increasing...
Especially in the Northern Latitudes...

"Since the late 1970s, the amount of solar radiation the sun emits, during times of quiet sunspot activity, has increased by nearly .05 percent per decade, according to a NASA funded study.
"This trend is important because, if sustained over many decades, it could cause significant climate change," said Richard Willson, a researcher affiliated with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Columbia University's Earth Institute, New York. He is the lead author of the study recently published in Geophysical Research Letters. Full research

About: Solar is a short animated film by graduate creatives Ian Wharton & Edward Shires. A tale of the sun, moon and two characters who inhabit a world that relies on day and night perhaps more than it would seem.

From Ancient God, to 'Powerhouse' at the heart of Solar system...
And now, quite possibly the most inconvenient truth ever.... Haha
